It's so sad
The mermaid sock had yet another bad experience. It's now a ball of yarn, again. I casted it on -- I REFUSE TO BE DEFEATED!!! I will not be humbled by a mere sock. I will succeed. I finished the second row. Another month and I'll be back at the heel.

Oh no! I'm so sorry. They were so beautiful. I think I remember reading somewhere else about somebody having similar trouble with that pattern, too.
